Well now, what have I been up to since last posting...........
A few toys for Charity..........
Below, Lots and lots of left over yarn from other projects turns out a really warm crochet scarf.
Some of the members of Crochet Victoria have decided to attempt to make their own Tunisian crochet hooks. So me being me couldn't resist the challenge and in my bull at a gate fashion I went down to the local Bunning's hardware store and purchased a length of dowel and 3 sheets of varying grades of glass paper. I have to say at the beginning I didn't expect to be able to do it due to lack of tools!! However, I had obviously bought the right paper because the results are very good considering I did both hooks only using a Stanley knife, and the paper. Even the holes in the ends are made by using a drill bit and holding it in a pair of plyers and turning it by hand, now that was difficult.
I didn't realize how much times have changed in the house work department. I went to the supermarket today to buy some floor wax, you know the one I mean ..Fishers wax in a flat tin wonderful stuff for protecting and polishing. Nope, can't buy it anywhere and it would have perfect to treat the Tunisian hook. My hook annoys me because it is not polished enough and that slows down the whole procedure and that to me = frustration. Never mind I will beg, borrow or s%*#@ some from somewhere.
After much discussion ad the opinions of the more experienced crocheters, we have come to the conclusion the hooks need a touch up. They are a bit too long and require to much wrist action to be comfortable when using them. I will get to that shortly and post a FINAL photo of them when done.
The scarf in the photo above is Tunisian crochet.
Stash busting sale at Caulfield.
Boy did I have great day yesterday!! I went to a knitting, crochet, and accessories destash in Caulfield. Like I am talking 4 rooms full of the stuff, it was exactly how I would like to think Heaven was lol.
Wool winders for I think it was $10.00 each and I think she has 4 left. Crochet hooks, buttons by the hundreds. etc etc etc.
ETA: I got there at 10.30 am and didn’t leave until 4 pm and I didn’t know the lady prior to going…………does that give you any idea of what I was looking through?

Yarn winder and an attachment that can be added to it, which enable me to twist my yarns prior to winding, yippeeeeeeee. I use a lot of yarns doubled for my charity knitting and this will take away the hassle of the different yarns running all over the place. Plus the yarn has a much more even colour done this way. I had seen these a few times before but the price was out of my reach, but this one was very reasonable so it had to come home with me.

I have been wanting one of these yarn holders for a long while too but could never justify the cost. Well now I have it and am completely satisfied with my spend up
I have a friend in Toowoomba, QLD, who I haven't seen since moving back to Victoria in Nov 2007. She has kindly asked me on numerous occasions to come for a visit but life kept getting in the way. I have now decided that I will go up and spend a week with her this month, regardless of what life throws at me!
I had an absolute ball with my friend Yvette, she and her husband Eric are such nice people. We went to the Japanese Gardens at the Toowoomba University, beautiful, absolutely beautiful gardens. We had a picnic lunch and spent the afternoon sitting up the top looking down over the scenery and knitting.........now that is the way to spend the day!!

The gardens have their own resident colony of bats, it was awesome to see them all together in the one place. But even better when they decided it was time to take to the sky..... what I managed to capture in the photo is only a small proportion of the numbers that are there. The wing span on sme of these bats would have been close to a metre.
Having meet ups every second Wednesday with some of the members of Crochet Victoria group. They are being held at one of our Esteemed members home (Sharon). It is a really a very enjoyable day, with lots of laughs, lessons, sharing of information and food, oh such lovely food too. A very big thank you to Sharon for opening her home and sharing her vast knowledge.
I am learning so much from the wonderful members on Crochet Victoria. I have even gotten brave enough to try crocheting a bag and if I do say so myself I am very happy with the results of the first one. So happy in fact that I have made a couple more and each time they get easier.

At one of the first meetings of Crochet Lovers Victoria I met a lady (Lyndy), who was crocheting socks and they were fantastic. The pattern book ( LEARN TO CROCHET SOCKS,by Kathy Wesley)she was using seemed to be easy enough for me to try. It was purchased in Geelong at the Woolsy Trading Post, so the next time I went to the Cemetery I called in and bought myself a copy. I have had reasonable results with help from Lyndy on understanding the heel. Practise makes perfect I am told, so practice I will.
I can recommend the pattern book for some one that is learning to do socks, I found it to be very easy to to follow.
